Ahmedabad: Around 1,000 doctors from across Gujarat gathered in the city on Monday to protest delay in announcement of results of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), conducted for admission to post graduate courses.
Students from VS Hospital and Civil Hospital who had appeared for the NEET, conducted in 2012, too were part of the protest. According to the students, further delay in announcement of the results may cause loss of a semester for them.
The protestors took out a rally from near Vallabh Sadan to Income Tax circle. According to them, the exam was conducted between November 23 and December 6 last year, with the January 2013 being the deadline for announcement of results. However, the results have not been declared yet.
“The case is pending with the Supreme Court following some private colleges’ objection. As of now, the future of 1.2 lakh doctors in India hangs in balance. As per the Medical Council of India, if admissions are not completed before May 31, students may have to lose one semester,” said Dr Anupam Ranjan, one of the protesting students in Ahmedabad.
He added that the protest in Ahmedabad was part of a nation-wide agitation. Around 1.2 lakh doctors had appeared for NEET for around 5,000 seats in PG courses in colleges in India
