PG medical admissions deadline extended
AHMEDABAD: The Medical Council of India (MCI) has given extension till July 31 for completion of admissions in postgraduate medical courses, said Dr Mukul Shah, pro vice-chancellor of Gujarat University (GU), here on Tuesday. Earlier, the deadline for completing admissions was June 20, which was causing concern as the state was nowhere near beginning the process.
Dr Shah said that the extension will give universities time to complete admissions in postgraduate medical courses through the system of common university merit list. This is the first time that a common university merit list is being prepared for admissions to PG medical courses. Admissions will be granted only on the basis of National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) scores.
NEET-PG result was declared in mid-May. This was causing concern among students who are waiting for PG admissions for almost six months now.
It was decided at the all-university VC meeting that PG medical admissions will be granted only on the basis of NEET-PG score and common university PG admissions will be facilitated by an admission committee which will be formed to regularise admissions.
The state government is yet to set up this admission committee. This was causing anxiety to students as the MCI had earlier said that the admission process should be completed by June 20.
