'Admission from NEET list not valid'
The Admission Supervisory Committee (ASC) has said admission to eight medical colleges under the Kerala Private Medical College Managements Association (KPMCMA) should be made only from the rank list prepared by the ASC.
Addressing a press conference at the committee headquarters on Wednesday here, Justice James, who heads the ASC, also made it clear that the managements could not make admission from the National Eligibility-cum -Entrance Test (NEET) list.
The entrance test for admission to 35 per cent management quota seats at colleges under the KPMCMA was conducted by the Commissioner of Entrance Examination under the supervision of the ASC on July 21. “The total number of seats in management quota is 315. The committee has handed over a rank list of 408 candidates who had cleared the exam. Management representatives were quoted as saying that they would conduct admission from the NEET list also. The committee would like to make it clear that admission from the NEET list is not valid,” Justice James said.
Of the 35 pc, admission to 20 pc seats should be on merit basis while the remaining 15 per cent seats are considered as privilege quota seats of managements. However, for KMCT Medical College, Manassery, and MES Medical College, Perinthalmanna, this 15 pc can be considered as their community quota. Admission to the privilege/community quota will be as per the discretion of management. “Position in rank list does not matter, but the candidate should have scored 50 pc marks in the entrance exam conducted by the committee. For admission to privilege quota, managements can follow the ‘pick and choose’ method,” he said.
